Why are you Muslim?

‘Why are you Muslim?’ It may sound like an obvious question, but often many of us don’t have a clear answer to it. I remember being asked this question by my elder brother when I was fourteen years of age, my initial answer was ‘Well, our family is Muslim’, his reply to this made me think, he said, ‘If your family were Hindu or Christian, would you be as well?’. I replied with a strong ‘No, Islam is the truth’, the discussion that followed made me question the basis of my life and changed my life for ever. He triggered me to think about how to prove that Islam is the truth rather than just believing it emotionally or blindly. In fact Allah (swt) has condemned people for imitating their forefathers and adopting their belief without clear evidence
.

In the Holy Qur’an, He (swt) says:

“And verily guess is no substitute for the truth.” [TMQ 53:28]

“They have no (certain) knowledge. They follow nothing but conjecture. For surely; they killed him not (‘Isa).” [TMQ 4:157]

"These are nothing but names which you have devised, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their Nafs desire. Even though there has already come to them the Guidance from their Rabb" [TMQ 53:23]

"Do you have Ilm (knowledge) for that which you claim so that you provide us with? You follow nothing but conjecture (Zann)." [TMQ 6:148]

Jilbab and the Muslim Woman's Dress Code

Sources of Islamic Law

The sources in Islamic law are primarily the Qur’an and Sunnah [1]. The Qur’an, the book held sacred by Muslims, contains approximately 500 verses dealing with diverse topics which are of a legal relevance. The Sunnah represents the repository of reports of sayings, acts and consent of the Prophet Muhammad. The role of the Sunnah is seen as an elaboration of the Quranic injunctions. There are other sources which derive from the two primary sources and they are the Ijma’ (legal consensus), Qiyas (analogical deduction) and other disputed sources but they are not relevant to the discussion at hand.

Surah al-Kawthar

إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ
فَصَلِّ لِرَبِّكَ وَانْحَرْ
إِنَّ شَانِئَكَ هُوَ الْأَبْتَرُ
Allah said to his Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم "Verily,
We have granted you Al-Kawthar, Therefore turn in prayer to your Lord and sacrifice, For he who hates you, he will be cut off"
In this Allah promised His Messenger with good and that his enemies would be cut off and left deficient, and so turned him صلى الله عليه وسلم towards gratitude for such favours.
The promise was revealed to Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم at a time when his followers were few and his enemies were many. It exemplifies how Allah looked after His Messenger صلى الله عليه وسلم, who was facing great hardships in his da'awah to the stubborn Meccan people, pulling him ever closer with comforting words. This is in contrast to the condemnation for his despicable enemies (shaaniaka).
The truthfulness of this promise is shown in the reality of goodness, guidance and Iman, which is in contrast to evil, misguidance and kufr.

Bismillah Walhamdulillah

Bismillah Walhamdulillah. Peace & blessing be upon Rasoolullah.
This hadith is for those who understand the Great high status of a
mujahid & a shaheed in Islam -

Talha's dream

Talha ibn ‘Ubaydallah (radhiallahu `anhu) reported that two men came
to the Prophet (sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam) who had accepted Islam
at the same time. One of them used to partake in Jihad more-so than
the other, and so (one day) he fought in a battle and was martyred
therein. The other remained behind him for another year, and then he
passed away.

Talha said, ‘I saw in my dream that I was at the door of Paradise when
behold, I was with both of them (the two men).

shab-e-barat

Wa 'alaikum as-salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu,

Praise be to Allaah

Excellent question.

You correctly mentioned that the so-called shab-e-barat is not mentioned in the Qur'aan. It is not even hinted at in the Book of Allaah (subhaanhu wa taa'ala). However, you will see and hear some people mentioning the verses in the Qur'aan (interpretation of the meaning):

We sent it (this Qur'aan) down on a blessed night. Verily, We are ever warning. (Soorah Ad-Dukhaan: 3)

Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. (Ad-Dukhaan: 4)

As a Command from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers). (Ad-Dukhaan: 5)

as referring to the night in the middle of Sha'baan. However, the night mentioned, in which the Qur'aan was sent down in this verse can only refer to a night in Ramadaan because Allaah says, the interpretation of the meaning of which is:

The month of Ramadaan, in which was revealed the Qur'aan................ (soorah Al-Baqarah:185)

And the Qur'aan, as is well known, explains the Qur'aan.

Actually, the night mentioned in soorah Ad-Dukhaan
